What we mean by industrial platinum
Loose car catalytic converters do not fall under this heading: the platinum in them can only be recovered with specialised processing. For everything above the rule is: bring it as it is, there is no need to clean it.
- Laboratory crucibles – melting crucibles and dishes, damaged or contaminated as well
- Thermocouple wire – usually a platinum-rhodium alloy
- Catalyst gauze – finely woven gauze from the chemical industry
- Wire and sheet – electrodes, contacts and semi-finished products
- Parts from the glass industry – spinner nozzles and furnace parts, often heavy and of high fineness
- Residual material – rejected parts and production offcuts
Thermocouple wire and gauze: alloys with rhodium
Thermocouple wire usually consists of one leg of virtually pure platinum and one leg of platinum-rhodium: type S contains 10 per cent rhodium, type R 13 per cent. Rhodium is a precious metal in its own right with a rate of its own, and the analysis shows exactly which part of your lot consists of which metal.
Catalyst gauze comes above all from nitric acid production and is generally a platinum-rhodium weave. Here too the rule holds: the composition is measured, not estimated – and both metals are named in the offer.
Demonstrating provenance
With technical material we always ask about the provenance. If it comes from your company – a laboratory, a workshop, a production line – we want to be able to record that in a declaration of provenance, for instance with company details or a disposal document. If you offer it as a private individual, for example out of an estate, your identification and the account alongside it are enough.
That is not mistrust but care: technical precious metal without a clear provenance we do not buy.
Settlement on fine weight, after analysis
Technical platinum is seldom pure. Thermocouple wire contains rhodium, crucibles become contaminated in use with glass and melt residues, and alloys differ per application. We therefore first measure with X-ray fluorescence (XRF) what is in it – in your presence, with the result on the screen.
Settlement runs on the fine weight: the share of pure platinum times the daily rate. That way you are not paid the price of an estimate but of a measurement – and payment follows within 24 hours by bank transfer.
A larger lot? Announce it in advance at the head office in Eindhoven. We can then fix the rate for an agreed period and, if you wish, come to you insured.

Recording provenance
Company name or disposal document, plus photo identification. With commercial lots that declaration is compulsory.
Analysis of the composition
With X-ray we establish per lot how much precious metal is really in it. There is no need to clean it beforehand.
Settlement on fine weight
At the daily rate, by bank transfer within 24 hours. With an announced lot the rate can be fixed in advance.

Questions about selling industrial platinum
My crucible is discoloured and full of residue. Is that a problem?
No. We take contamination out at the analysis; the settlement is about the platinum that is really in it. Cleaning it yourself is not necessary and can even cost material.
What is a platinum melting crucible worth?
A laboratory crucible soon weighs several tens of grams of virtually pure platinum. The fine weight times the daily rate on our platinum price page gives the order of magnitude; the exact composition we establish with the analysis.
Do you also buy thermocouple wire with rhodium?
Yes. The analysis shows which part is platinum and which part rhodium; we name both and you see what the offer is based on. Type S and type R – with 10 and 13 per cent rhodium – are what we see most.
As a private individual, do I have to be able to prove the provenance?
Valid photo identification is compulsory, as with every purchase. Tell us in addition where the material comes from – out of an estate, for instance. With company material we ask for company details for a declaration of provenance.
Do you buy platinum from the glass industry?
Yes. Spinner nozzles and furnace parts from glass and glass fibre production are often heavy and of high fineness, and therefore very much worth the trouble. Announce such a lot in advance at the head office in Eindhoven.

With larger lots we come to you insured, throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Get in touch with the head office in Eindhoven to arrange it; the rate can be fixed there as well.
What identification do I need in order to sell?
You need valid photo identification: a passport, identity card or driving licence. We are legally required to record your details when buying precious metal, jewellery and watches. Without valid identification we are therefore not allowed to buy anything.
When do I receive my money after the sale?
You receive your money as soon as you have agreed to the valuation. Smaller amounts we pay in cash; larger amounts reach your account by bank transfer within 24 hours. You sign the purchase receipt first, and payment follows after that.
