What do we pay for a platinum Panda?
Based on the platinum rate of this moment, €49.33 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine platinum | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 31.104 g | — | €1,503.61 |
| 30 grams | 30 g | — | €1,450.26 |
| 1/2 oz | 15.552 g | — | €751.80 |
| 1/4 oz | 7.776 g | — | €375.90 |
| 1/10 oz | 3.11 g | — | €150.36 |
| 1/20 oz | 1.555 g | — | €75.18 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure platinum it contains.
This coin is 999.5‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
China struck no platinum Pandas between 2005 and 2022. The new series is weighed in grams: 30 grams instead of a troy ounce.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Two series with a seventeen-year gap
The first platinum Pandas appeared in 1987. Smaller sizes followed up to 2005, when China stopped because platinum had become too expensive. The coin only returned in 2022, now weighed in grams: 30 grams and 1 gram, just as the gold and silver Panda have been struck in grams since 2016.
That switch matters for the price. An old ounce holds 31.1035 grams of platinum, a new coin 30 grams. We weigh the coin and read the year, so you know exactly which fine weight is being settled.
A different panda every year
As with the gold Panda, the design changes each year. For the metal value that makes no difference: a platinum Panda from 1990 holds as much platinum as one from 2005 in the same size. The early years were struck in small numbers; whether a piece is worth more than its platinum for that reason is something the valuer assesses at the table.
How to sell your platinum Panda
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

Questions about selling platinum Panda
How much platinum is in a platinum Panda?
That depends on the series. A full ounce from 1987 to 2005 contains 31.1035 grams of platinum, the 30-gram coin from the new series exactly 30 grams. Both are struck in 999.5 platinum, so fine weight and total weight are practically the same.
Why did China strike no platinum Pandas between 2005 and 2022?
The platinum price in those years made the coin too expensive for the Chinese market. With the new series in 2022 the platinum Panda returned, now in grams rather than troy ounces, like the gold and silver Panda.
Do you also buy the small sizes?
Yes. We take the half, quarter, tenth and twentieth ounce from the old series as well. Each size is settled on its own fine weight against the platinum rate of the moment.
Does the coin need to be in its original packaging?
No. An original capsule or certificate is welcome and protects the coin on the way, but the metal value does not depend on it. Please do not take the coin out yourself; if needed we open it while you watch.
