Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.75 per gram of fine material. As of:

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.

This coin is 680‰ pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.

Named after the engraver Pierre Turin. The fineness of 680 is lower than on older French silver coins, so weight alone does not tell the whole story.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Recognition

On the obverse the head of Marianne with a Phrygian cap and laurel wreath, on the reverse the value between ears of wheat. The coins were struck between 1929 and 1939 and carry their designer’s name below the portrait.

What they fetch

A 20 francs Turin weighs 20 grams and contains 13.6 grams of fine silver; a 10 francs half that. A fineness of 680 means almost a third of the weight is copper. We settle on the silver, not on the total weight.

In four steps

How to sell your silver 10 and 20 francs Turin

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling silver 10 and 20 francs Turin

How much silver is in a 20 francs Turin?

Twenty grams of 680 silver: 13.6 grams of fine silver. The 10 francs contains 6.8 grams.

Why do I get less than for a 25-gram 10 francs Hercule?

Because the fineness is lower and the coin lighter. A Turin of 20 grams holds 13.6 grams of fine silver, a Hercule 22.5 grams.

Are all French 10 and 20 francs of that time silver?

The Turin coins of 1929 to 1939 are. Other 10 and 20 francs, such as the gold 20 francs or later base-metal coins, are a different matter; we test every piece.

How am I paid?

In cash at the counter or by bank transfer within 24 hours, once you have accepted the offer.
