What do we pay for a silver Fiji Taku?
Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.75 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine silver | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 31.104 g | — | €53.25 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.
This coin is 999‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
Taku is the Fijian word for the hawksbill turtle. The coin is struck for Fiji by the New Zealand Mint.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Recognition
The reverse shows a hawksbill turtle swimming over the seabed, with the word Taku in the field. The obverse carries the portrait of the British monarch and a face value of two dollars. The design changes little from year to year; the date is the first thing to look at.
Our checks
We weigh the coin, measure diameter and thickness and determine the fineness. That is enough to recognise a copy, without damaging the coin.
The first year, 2010, appeared in a small mintage and is sought after by collectors. If you bring one, the valuer looks beyond the silver alone.
How to sell your silver Fiji Taku
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

Questions about selling silver Fiji Taku
How much silver is in a Fiji Taku?
One troy ounce: 31.1035 grams of fine silver at 999.
Is the 2010 coin worth more?
Often, because the first year was struck in a small mintage. The valuer assesses that separately from the silver weight.
Why is there a British monarch on a coin from Fiji?
Fiji was a British colony and carries the portrait of the British head of state on these coins. It makes no difference to the value.
How does payment work?
You see the offer first. If you accept, we pay in cash or by bank transfer within 24 hours.
