What do we pay for a silver Emu?

Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.75 per gram of fine material. As of:

1 oz31.104 g—€53.25

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.

This coin is 999.9‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

Every year the Emu shows a different scene. That means the year can be read from the design before you even look for the date.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

A young series beside the classics

The Emu joined the Perth Mint’s regular bullion coins in 2018, alongside the Kangaroo, the Kookaburra and the Koala. It is struck in a far smaller mintage than the Kangaroo and changes design every year.

What the valuer does

Weighing, measuring and testing the fineness, while you watch. An Emu weighs one troy ounce and consists almost entirely of silver, so the valuer sees any deviation in weight or size immediately.

If you are bringing a tube or several years, let us know in advance. Then there is enough time and liquidity ready.

In four steps

How to sell your silver Emu

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling silver Emu

How much is a silver Emu worth?

It contains 31.1035 grams of fine silver. We settle that at the silver rate of the moment, less our margin; the amount is in the table on this page.

Do you buy every year?

Yes, every year from 2018. The silver weight is always the same.

Is it worth cleaning the coin?

No, leave it as it is. Polishing causes scratches and gains nothing, because we settle on the silver and not on the shine.

Which identification should I bring?

A valid passport, identity card or driving licence. The law requires us to record your details with every purchase of precious metal.
