This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.
This coin is 925‰ pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
Belgium has issued silver commemorative coins in euros since 2002. The 10 euro is generally 925 silver; the 20 euro exists in 925 and in 999, and we test those coin by coin.

A coin that never circulated
The silver 10 euro is legal tender in Belgium, but nobody pays with it in a shop. It was sold as a commemorative coin, with themes from artists to anniversaries, usually in a case with a certificate.
When we buy, the silver counts: 18.75 grams of 925 silver, or 17.34 grams of fine silver. It is worth knowing that the issue price was often higher than the silver value.
The 20 euro too
Besides the 10 euro, Belgium also issued silver 20 euro coins, which are heavier and exist in different finenesses. We test those coin by coin, so that we settle on the silver they actually contain.
