What do we pay for a palladium Emu?
Based on the palladium rate of this moment, €33.93 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine palladium | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 31.104 g | — | €1,034.26 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure palladium it contains.
This coin is 999.5‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
The Perth Mint struck the Emu from 1995 to 1998 and stopped when the palladium price doubled.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Four years of palladium from Perth
In 1995 the Perth Mint issued a palladium ounce with an emu on the reverse: first an emu with eggs, later with chicks. When the palladium price doubled in 1998, the series was stopped. As a result only a few pieces are in circulation.
What we pay
We pay on 31.1035 grams of palladium per coin, against the palladium rate of the moment. An Emu in proof or with its original certificate is looked at separately by the valuer; we always pay the palladium value.
How to sell your palladium Emu
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.
Paid out straight away
In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling palladium Emu
Why is the Emu so hard to find?
Because it was struck for only four years, from 1995 to 1998, and in small numbers. The Perth Mint stopped when the palladium price doubled.
Was the Emu also made in smaller sizes?
No, the palladium Emu appeared only as a troy ounce. If you have a coin that weighs differently, bring it along; the valuer establishes what it is.
How much palladium does it contain?
A troy ounce, 31.1035 grams, at 999.5 fine. We pay on that against the palladium rate of the moment.
What should I bring?
The coin and valid identification. A certificate or box is welcome but not required.
