What do we pay for a palladium Ballerina?

Based on the palladium rate of this moment, €33.93 per gram of fine material. As of:

1/4 oz7.776 g—€258.56

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure palladium it contains.

This coin is 999‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

The dancer is always Odette from Swan Lake. The first years still carry the inscription of the Soviet Union.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Palladium from the Soviet Union

In 1989 the Soviet Union struck a 25-rouble coin with a full troy ounce of palladium and a ballet dancer on the reverse. That made the Ballerina one of the first palladium investment coins. After 1991 Russia continued the series with a new pose each year; coins of 5 and 10 roubles, with a quarter and half an ounce, appeared later.

Settled on the palladium

The full Ballerina contains 31.1035 grams of palladium at 999 fine. We multiply that by the palladium rate and deduct our margin. The amount per size is in the table on this page.

Palladium looks like silver, but is lighter than platinum and harder than silver. During the check we measure weight, dimensions and fineness; a silver-plated forgery shows up immediately.

In four steps

How to sell your palladium Ballerina

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling palladium Ballerina

How much palladium is in a Ballerina?

The 25-rouble coin contains a troy ounce, 31.1035 grams of palladium. The 10 roubles contains half an ounce and the 5 roubles a quarter ounce, both also in 999 palladium.

My coin says CCCP. Is that the same coin?

Yes. The first years were still issued by the Soviet Union and carry the inscription CCCP with hammer and sickle. Later years carry the Russian coat of arms. The palladium content is the same.

Does the year affect the price?

Not the palladium value. Some years were struck in small numbers and may interest collectors; the valuer assesses that at the table, without promising a premium in advance.

How am I paid?

In cash at the counter or by bank transfer within 24 hours. You decide only after the offer and you never have to leave your coins behind.
