How do you recognise platinum 900?
Look for the stamp 900 – usually on the inside of a ring or on the back of a brooch. That number stands for the quantity of thousandths of pure material: 900 means 90% platinum.
If there is no stamp at all, we measure the fineness with an acid test or – with valuable pieces – with X-ray analysis. That last method is non-destructive: your jewellery stays intact.
Where you come across platinum 900
Nine hundred thousandths was the usual platinum alloy at the beginning of the last century, with ten per cent iridium added to it. You therefore find it above all in art deco jewellery and in old American settings.
Pieces of that kind are worth a second look: an intact art deco ring can yield more as a piece of jewellery than as material. We assess both and bid on the higher outcome.
If there are diamonds in the setting, our gemmologists value those separately, apart from the platinum. You see both amounts side by side.
What you see here is the pure material value. 90% of the rate, times the weight, with nothing deducted. We fetch that rate from the world market every minute and convert it at the euro rate of that moment.

Questions about platinum 900
What does the stamp 900 on platinum mean?
It means that 900 of every 1000 parts by weight are pure platinum, or 90%, with the remaining tenth generally iridium. That was the usual platinum alloy at the beginning of the last century, which is why it turns up in art deco jewellery and old American settings.
What is a gram of platinum 900 worth?
The amount follows the world market rate and therefore changes every minute; the current figure stands at the top of this page. The calculation itself never changes: the platinum rate per gram times 90%, times the weight of your piece. The table above shows that for one to a hundred grams.
Is my art deco ring worth more than the platinum in it?
That is very possible, and it is worth having assessed. An intact art deco piece can be worth considerably more as jewellery than as metal, so we look at both sides and bid on whichever is higher. Any diamonds in the setting are valued separately by our gemmologists.
Do I get the same price at a branch as on the website?
Yes, the price you see here is the same price you get at all 45 of our locations. At the table we only still establish the weight and the fineness of your pieces. For the fineness we measure, the price per gram shown on this site is what applies.
