Air-King: from 34 to 40 millimetres
The Air-King is named after the pilots of the Royal Air Force. For decades it was a simple 34-millimetre steel Oyster: the 5500 ran from the late fifties to the late eighties, then came the 14000 and 14000M, and until 2014 the 114200.
In 2016 a different Air-King arrived: the 116900, 40 millimetres, with a black dial with a large minute scale and a green and yellow Rolex crown. Since 2022 that has been the 126900, with crown guards and calibre 3230.

A green crystal is not a repair. The 116400GV left the factory with a green-tinted sapphire crystal – GV stands for Glace Verte. Never have it replaced with a clear one: it would then have become a different reference.
Milgauss: discontinued, so a different question
The Milgauss appeared in 1956 as the 6541, a watch resistant to magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss, for scientists and engineers. The 1019 ran until 1988. In 2007 it returned as the 116400, with the orange lightning-bolt seconds hand and a soft-iron cage around the movement.
The 116400GV with the green crystal and later the Z-Blue dial became the best-known version. In 2023 Rolex stopped making the Milgauss. Since then the question in the trade has shifted: no longer 'what does it cost new', but 'who is looking for exactly this one'. We follow that trade reference by reference.

„I'll start by sharing my experience at the Goud-Wissel office in Eindhoven, where I initially ended up on the advice of an acquaintance. I already found it strange that their website didn't tell me roughly what I would receive per gram [in my case 18-carat gold] for the jewellery I wanted to sell. When I came in, the introductory questions felt like a kind of check on whether I knew what I was talking about. Even more: it gave me the creeping feeling that this conversation would be directly linked to the amount they would offer me for my gold. As a layman, I admitted that the generally known current gold price was my only 'knowledge'. What followed was a whole story about the broad concept of this valuation and a list of elements that made it logical that the buying price came nowhere near it. I had to realise that the basic costs of the gold exchange office: rent / fittings / staff / outsourced melting etc. were taken into account [read: deducted] from what was paid out to the customer at the bottom line. After testing, I was then offered 4,000 in short order. I had seen on a website that X-Goud also has a branch in Eindhoven, and it turned out to be almost around the corner. The owner happened to be there because the premises were being fitted out, but even though I had no appointment I was still received very warmly. After a clear, expert, no-obligation explanation and testing, Ekin named a rather different buying price compared to the Goud-Wisselkantoor where I had been an hour earlier. And luckily I had left to look for a kind of second opinion. X-GOUD bought my jewellery for 7,150!!!!!!!! A GOOD 3,000 MORE! Sorry for the long-winded build-up, but this piece really should have been written entirely in capitals so that everyone clearly reads how, in my view, to put it politely, they rip you off right to your face at the Goud-Wisselkantoor. Questions about selling Rolex Air-King and Milgauss
Is my Milgauss worth more now that it is discontinued?
That varies by version. The end of a model changes the group of buyers, not automatically its size. The 116400GV with green crystal, especially with the Z-Blue dial, is the most sought after. Older 1019s are collector's territory. We base the offer on the current trade figures for your reference.
I have an old 34-millimetre Air-King. Is it still saleable?
Yes. The 5500, 14000 and 114200 are simple, robust Rolexes with a loyal group of buyers. Precisely because so many change hands, we can substantiate the offer well. An original dial and a case that has not been heavily polished make the biggest difference.
What is the difference between the 116900 and the 126900?
The 126900 from 2022 has crown guards on the case, a slightly revised dial and calibre 3230. The 116900 from 2016 had calibre 3131. Each has its own trade. We read the reference and tell you which one you have.
My Milgauss no longer has its papers.
That is no obstacle to selling. Our watchmaker opens the case and checks calibre, numbers and the anti-magnetic shielding. Without a warranty card a dealer allows for slightly more risk, but the watch remains perfectly saleable. Bring whatever you still have.
Are there Air-Kings with special dials?
Yes. There are older 5500s with dials that collectors look for, and Air-Kings with company names or logos on the dial. We assess such versions piece by piece. In any case leave the dial as it is: a replaced dial costs these watches the most.
