Why does a Silver Panda weigh 30 grams and not an ounce?
China moved its bullion coins to metric weights, so the modern Panda is struck at 30 grams rather than the 31.1035 grams of a troy ounce. That makes it a little lighter than most bullion coins, and the price per coin reflects that smaller weight.
Does the yearly panda design affect the price?
For the silver value, no. A new panda appears on the reverse every year and each coin holds the same fine silver for its weight. Several older years are collected, however, so the valuer checks the date and mentions it whenever it makes a difference.
Do you buy older Pandas struck in ounces?
Yes. Earlier issues were made to different weights before the metric change, and we simply weigh what you bring rather than assume. The offer follows the actual fine silver in your coin against the rate showing at the counter on the day you visit.
Do you need to see my passport?
A passport, identity card or driving licence, yes: valid photo identification is required before we can pay out. It is a legal obligation on precious metal buyers in the Netherlands rather than a preference of ours, and it applies to every transaction regardless of the amount involved.
Can I be paid in cash?
Yes, smaller amounts are paid in cash at the counter as soon as you accept the offer. Above a certain level we pay by bank transfer instead, and that money is in your account within 24 hours. You decide whether to accept before anything is handed over.
