Sell a Silver Maple Leaf

Canada, from 1988. At 999.9 fine it is one of the purest silver ounces struck anywhere, so the total weight and the fine weight run together.

What do we pay for a Silver Maple Leaf?

Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.62 per gram of fine material. As of:

1 oz31.104 g€50.46

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.

This coin is 999.9‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

In four steps

How to sell your Silver Maple Leaf

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling Silver Maple Leaf

How much silver is in a Silver Maple Leaf?

One coin contains 31.1035 grams of pure silver. Because the Maple Leaf is struck at 999.9 fine, the total weight and the fine weight are effectively the same, so what the scale shows is what we settle on against the silver rate of the moment.

My coin has milk spots, does that lower the price?

No, not for the silver value. Milk spots are a known side effect of striking very pure silver and they take nothing away from the 31.1035 grams inside the coin. Only a sealed proof issue is judged on appearance, and then the valuer says so at the table.

Should I take the coins out of their tube?

No, please leave them in. An original mint tube is quicker for us to count and check, and it protects the surfaces on the way over. If a closer look at an individual coin is needed we open the tube in front of you and explain what we are looking for.

Do I need to bring identification?

Yes, valid photo identification is required for every purchase: a passport, identity card or driving licence. Dutch law obliges precious metal buyers to record who they are dealing with, so we note your details before paying out. Without it we cannot complete the transaction, however small the amount.

When do I get my money?

Straight away. Smaller amounts are paid in cash at the counter the moment you accept the offer, and larger sums go by bank transfer that reaches your account within 24 hours. You never have to leave your coins with us and wait for a valuation to follow.
