What do we pay for a Silver Libertad?

Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.62 per gram of fine material. As of:

1 oz31.104 g€50.46
2 oz62.207 g€100.92
5 oz155.518 g€252.30

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.

This coin is 999‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

In four steps

How to sell your Silver Libertad

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling Silver Libertad

Which Libertad sizes do you buy?

The one-ounce, two-ounce and five-ounce coins all cross our table. Each is settled on the fine silver it holds at 999, so a five-ounce coin brings five times what a single ounce does at the same rate. Every size has its own line in the table.

Why are some Libertads worth more than their silver?

Because mintages in this series are small compared with the large bullion programmes, and collectors chase particular years. The valuer checks the date and the size against that market and offers you the higher figure rather than only the metal value of the coin.

Has the Libertad been struck every year?

It has been issued since 1982, though not every size appears in every year, which is part of why certain combinations are scarce. Whatever year you bring, we weigh and test it on the spot and settle on the fine silver the coin actually contains.

What identification do you accept?

A passport, a Dutch identity card or a driving licence, as long as it is valid. We are legally required to record who we buy precious metal from, so the details are noted before payment. A copy or a photograph on your phone is not sufficient for this.

How quickly is a larger amount settled?

By bank transfer, in your account within 24 hours. Cash is available at the counter for smaller sums and is paid out the moment you accept. Either way the offer is calculated and explained in front of you, and walking away costs you nothing at all.
