What do we pay for a Silver Kookaburra?
Based on the silver rate of this moment, €1.62 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine silver | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 31.104 g | — | €50.46 |
| 10 oz | 311.035 g | — | €504.59 |
| 1 kilo | 1,000 g | — | €1,622.30 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure silver it contains.
This coin is 999‰ pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

How to sell your Silver Kookaburra
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.
Paid out straight away
In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling Silver Kookaburra
What makes the Kookaburra different from the Koala?
Age and fineness, mostly. The Kookaburra has been struck since 1990 at 999 fine, while the Koala started in 2007 at 999.9. Both appear in one-ounce, ten-ounce and one-kilo sizes, and both are settled on the fine silver they actually contain.
Are early Kookaburra years worth extra?
Some of them are. The series is old enough that certain early mintages have become scarce, and collectors pay above the silver for those. The valuer checks the year against what that market is doing and offers you the higher of the two figures.
My coins have turned dark, is that a problem?
No, toning is normal on silver and costs you nothing. It is a surface reaction with the air and it does not remove a gram from the coin. Please do not try to polish it off: cleaning leaves scratches that can hurt a collector’s price badly.
Is identification really necessary?
Yes, it is a legal requirement and we cannot make an exception. Precious metal buyers in the Netherlands must record the identity of every seller, so we ask for a passport, identity card or driving licence and note the details. The valuation itself is free and needs nothing.
Do I have to wait for the money?
No, payment happens during the same visit. Cash is handed over at the counter as soon as you accept, and larger amounts are transferred and reach your account within 24 hours. The offer is worked out in front of you first, so you know the figure before agreeing.
