The same price for every producer – Umicore, Heraeus, Valcambi, PAMP, Argor-Heraeus, Perth Mint and the rest. What counts is weight and fineness, and those are the same at every recognised refinery.

Why bars yield the keenest price

With a piece of tableware we have to melt, separate and assay before the material is tradable again. With a bar we do not: it already is the end product. Our margin on bars is therefore lower than on old silver, and you sit closer to the world market price.

The condition is that the bar is identifiable: a legible brand, the weight, the fineness and preferably the serial number. If the bar is still in its original blister pack with its certificate card, leave it there – we then have less to check.

Silver is worth far less per gram than gold, which is why small silver bars are barely traded. From a kilo upwards it becomes interesting; we buy silver bars of up to 15 kilos each.

Larger lots. From a few kilos of silver onwards we are glad to make a separate appointment, if you wish at your own address and with insured transport.

Every producer, the same price

Umicore, Heraeus, Valcambi, PAMP, Argor-Heraeus, Perth Mint and the rest: we pay the same price for all of them. What counts is the weight and the fineness, and those are identical at every recognised refinery. That is why there is one table here and not a page per brand.

We check the authenticity by weight and dimensions and with an ultrasound and X-ray measurement. That happens in your presence and does not damage the bar.

In four steps

How to sell your silver bar

From walking in to payment usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Leave the bar as it is

If it is still sealed in its blister, leave it in there. An intact card with serial number saves checking work.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. Bring a valid form of identification.

  3. We verify the authenticity

Weight, dimensions and a measurement with ultrasound and X-ray. Non-destructive, and while you watch.

  4. Paid out immediately

At the rate of that moment. In cash or by bank; larger amounts are in your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling silver bars

Do you buy small silver bars as well?

Yes, but do reckon with the fact that silver is worth so much less per gram than gold that small bars are barely traded. From a kilo upwards it really becomes interesting. On a small bar you paid a relatively high premium when you bought it, and that premium does not come back to you on sale.

Do I get more for a bar than for silverware?

Per gram of fine silver, yes. A bar is already the end product and directly tradable, so we do not have to melt, separate and have it assayed again. Our margin on bars is therefore lower. With cutlery and tableware those processing costs are built into the price, and the non-silver parts drop out as well.

Does the brand of the bar matter?

No. Umicore, Heraeus, Valcambi, PAMP, Argor-Heraeus and Perth Mint all fetch the same price with us, because the weight and the fineness are identical at every recognised refinery. Only when the brand, the weight or the fineness has become illegible do we have to establish the fineness ourselves with extra measurements.

My silver bar has gone dark. Does that matter?

No. That dark haze is tarnish, a surface reaction with the air, and it says nothing whatsoever about the fineness or the weight. Please do not polish it away: polishing takes silver off and yields you nothing. We settle on the fine silver that is in the bar.
