Sell white gold and rose gold: worth as much as yellow gold?
Short answer: yes. The colour says nothing about how much gold is in it; the stamp says everything. A 14-carat white gold ring is worth exactly as much per gram as a 14-carat yellow gold one.

The colour comes from the alloy, not from less gold
Gold in jewellery is always alloyed with other metals. In yellow gold silver and copper are in balance; in rose gold the share of copper is larger, which gives the warm tint; in white gold palladium, nickel or silver provide the white colour. The share of gold – 585 thousandths at 14 carat, 750 at 18 carat – stays the same.
That is why we pay for white, rose and yellow gold with the same stamp at the same price per gram. Two-tone and tri-colour jewellery also simply counts per carat.
The rhodium layer
White gold is slightly greyish by nature. Jewellers therefore give it a wafer-thin layer of rhodium for a bright white shine. After years of wear that layer wears off and a yellowish tint shows through.
That does not lower the value: the rhodium weighs next to nothing and we pay for the gold underneath. So do not have a white gold piece re-plated before you sell it.
White gold or silver? Without a stamp they look alike. An X-ray analysis at the table gives the answer within minutes, and that makes quite a difference to the proceeds.
White gold, platinum or white gold with palladium
Platinum looks like white gold but is a different precious metal, with its own rate and the stamp 950 or Pt950. We buy it too, at the platinum rate. White gold with palladium in the alloy is simply paid as gold; the palladium is an auxiliary metal there.

„I'll start by sharing my experience at the Goud-Wissel office in Eindhoven, where I initially ended up on the advice of an acquaintance. I already found it strange that their website didn't tell me roughly what I would receive per gram [in my case 18-carat gold] for the jewellery I wanted to sell. When I came in, the introductory questions felt like a kind of check on whether I knew what I was talking about. Even more: it gave me the creeping feeling that this conversation would be directly linked to the amount they would offer me for my gold. As a layman, I admitted that the generally known current gold price was my only 'knowledge'. What followed was a whole story about the broad concept of this valuation and a list of elements that made it logical that the buying price came nowhere near it. I had to realise that the basic costs of the gold exchange office: rent / fittings / staff / outsourced melting etc. were taken into account [read: deducted] from what was paid out to the customer at the bottom line. After testing, I was then offered 4,000 in short order. I had seen on a website that X-Goud also has a branch in Eindhoven, and it turned out to be almost around the corner. The owner happened to be there because the premises were being fitted out, but even though I had no appointment I was still received very warmly. After a clear, expert, no-obligation explanation and testing, Ekin named a rather different buying price compared to the Goud-Wisselkantoor where I had been an hour earlier. And luckily I had left to look for a kind of second opinion. X-GOUD bought my jewellery for 7,150!!!!!!!! A GOOD 3,000 MORE! Sorry for the long-winded build-up, but this piece really should have been written entirely in capitals so that everyone clearly reads how, in my view, to put it politely, they rip you off right to your face at the Goud-Wisselkantoor. Is white gold worth less than yellow gold?
No. With the same carat stamp, white gold and yellow gold contain exactly the same amount of gold, and so the price per gram is the same. The white colour comes from palladium, nickel or silver in the alloy and a thin rhodium layer, not from less gold.
What is white gold worth per gram?
The same as yellow gold of the same fineness: at 14 carat 58.5 per cent of the gold price per gram, at 18 carat 75 per cent. Of that gold value you receive 91 per cent from us. The current rate is on our gold price page.
My white gold ring is turning yellow, is it still worth anything?
Yes, exactly as much. The rhodium layer has worn off and the natural colour of the white gold shows through; the fineness has not changed. Having it re-plated before the sale earns you nothing.
Is rose gold real gold?
Yes. Rose gold is gold with a larger share of copper in the alloy. Stamped 585 or 750, it is worth as much per gram as yellow or white gold of the same fineness.
How do I know whether my ring is white gold or platinum?
Look at the stamp: 585 or 750 is white gold, 950 or Pt950 is platinum. Without a stamp we measure it with an X-ray analysis at the table. We buy platinum too, at the platinum rate.
