Higher fineness, higher value per gram
In the Netherlands 14 carat is the standard. Jewellery from Turkey, the Gulf states and India is often 21 or 22 carat: 875 or 916 thousandths gold. Per gram that is well over half as much gold again as in a Dutch 14-carat chain – and you see that in the proceeds.
Of the gold value you receive 93 per cent for 22 carat from us and 91 per cent for 14 and 18 carat, as stated on our scrap gold page. The current price per carat is on our gold price page.
Stamps and names
A tola is an old Indian unit of weight of about 11.66 grams, still used in South Asia and the Gulf. We weigh in grams; if you give the weight in tola, we convert it at the table.

We measure rather than rely on the stamp
With high-fineness gold, accurate measurement pays off. A stamp can be missing, illegible or not match the alloy. So we check every piece with an X-ray analysis: within minutes you see on the screen how much gold is in it.
If the measurement comes out higher than the stamp, we pay on the measurement. If it comes out lower, we show you and explain why. Soldered seams and filigree can contain a little other metal; you see that in the result too.
Bridal gold or a complete set? Bring it all at once. We sort by fineness and weigh each pile separately, so you see per carat what it brings.
Bilezik, coins and sets
Turkish bilezik bangles are often solid 22 ayar and heavy per piece. We also buy Turkish gold coins such as the çeyrek, yarım and tam – usually 22 carat – loose or set in jewellery. Indian necklaces with enamel or stones are assessed per part: the gold at its fineness, while enamel, lacquer or stones are deducted from the weight.

„I'll start by sharing my experience at the Goud-Wissel office in Eindhoven, where I initially ended up on the advice of an acquaintance. I already found it strange that their website didn't tell me roughly what I would receive per gram [in my case 18-carat gold] for the jewellery I wanted to sell. When I came in, the introductory questions felt like a kind of check on whether I knew what I was talking about. Even more: it gave me the creeping feeling that this conversation would be directly linked to the amount they would offer me for my gold. As a layman, I admitted that the generally known current gold price was my only 'knowledge'. What followed was a whole story about the broad concept of this valuation and a list of elements that made it logical that the buying price came nowhere near it. I had to realise that the basic costs of the gold exchange office: rent / fittings / staff / outsourced melting etc. were taken into account [read: deducted] from what was paid out to the customer at the bottom line. After testing, I was then offered 4,000 in short order. I had seen on a website that X-Goud also has a branch in Eindhoven, and it turned out to be almost around the corner. The owner happened to be there because the premises were being fitted out, but even though I had no appointment I was still received very warmly. After a clear, expert, no-obligation explanation and testing, Ekin named a rather different buying price compared to the Goud-Wisselkantoor where I had been an hour earlier. And luckily I had left to look for a kind of second opinion. X-GOUD bought my jewellery for 7,150!!!!!!!! A GOOD 3,000 MORE! Sorry for the long-winded build-up, but this piece really should have been written entirely in capitals so that everyone clearly reads how, in my view, to put it politely, they rip you off right to your face at the Goud-Wisselkantoor. What will I get for Turkish 22-carat gold?
22 carat contains 916 thousandths gold. Weigh your jewellery and multiply by 0.916 and the gold rate of the day; that is the gold value. Of that you receive 93 per cent from us for 22 carat. We measure the fineness at the table with an X-ray analysis.
What is the difference between 22 ayar and 22 carat?
There is no difference: ayar is the Turkish word for carat. 22 ayar means 916 thousandths gold, 21 ayar 875 and 14 ayar 585. The stamp is often shown in figures next to the ayar marking.
How many grams is a tola of gold?
A tola is about 11.66 grams. The unit is still widely used in India, Pakistan and the Gulf states. We weigh in grams on a calibrated scale and convert it for you if you think in tola.
Do you buy Surinamese and Moroccan gold too?
Yes. Surinamese gold is often handmade and not always stamped; Moroccan gold is usually 18 carat. We measure the fineness of each piece and pay at the price for that fineness.
Do you buy Turkish gold coins such as the çeyrek?
Yes. The çeyrek, yarım and tam are usually 22 carat and we pay for them on their gold content, loose or set in jewellery. If a coin is in a pendant or bracelet, we assess the coin and the mount separately.
