Brand value or material value
Not every branded piece brings more than its metal. A gold piece from a recognisable, sought-after line has a second-hand market above the gold value; a simple silver pendant with a famous name often does not. We work out both and you see at the table which amount is higher.
Our valuer assesses brand value piece by piece, by line, version, condition and completeness. We promise no premium in advance; we do promise that the precious metal is the floor.
The brands we see most often
- Tiffany & Co. – much 925 silver (Return to Tiffany, Elsa Peretti), plus 18-carat gold and platinum
- Bulgari – Serpenti and B.zero1, mostly 18 carat, sometimes with ceramic or stones
- Chopard – Happy Diamonds with loose, moving diamonds, and Happy Hearts
- Hermès – jewellery in silver and gold; the enamel Clic H bracelet is usually gold- or palladium-plated metal
- Chanel, Dior, Messika, Pomellato – assessed piece by piece
Silver from Tiffany and Hermès
Much Tiffany jewellery is sterling silver (925). The silver value per piece is modest; the question is whether the brand adds anything on the second-hand market. With well-known lines in good condition it sometimes does, with common pendants and bracelets it often adds little. We say so honestly.
An enamel bracelet from Hermès usually contains no solid precious metal. Without gold or silver we cannot make an offer on it. Solid silver and gold Hermès jewellery we do buy.
Plated or solid? With designer and fashion brands the difference can be hard to see and large in value. We measure it free of charge in front of you.
What we look at
Signature and fineness stamp, a serial number if there is one, the quality of the finish and the condition. With Chopard Happy Diamonds we check whether the loose diamonds still move freely and are complete; with Bulgari whether the ceramic is undamaged.
Box, certificate and receipt make a branded piece easier to sell on. We also buy without papers.

„I'll start by sharing my experience at the Goud-Wissel office in Eindhoven, where I initially ended up on the advice of an acquaintance. I already found it strange that their website didn't tell me roughly what I would receive per gram [in my case 18-carat gold] for the jewellery I wanted to sell. When I came in, the introductory questions felt like a kind of check on whether I knew what I was talking about. Even more: it gave me the creeping feeling that this conversation would be directly linked to the amount they would offer me for my gold. As a layman, I admitted that the generally known current gold price was my only 'knowledge'. What followed was a whole story about the broad concept of this valuation and a list of elements that made it logical that the buying price came nowhere near it. I had to realise that the basic costs of the gold exchange office: rent / fittings / staff / outsourced melting etc. were taken into account [read: deducted] from what was paid out to the customer at the bottom line. After testing, I was then offered 4,000 in short order. I had seen on a website that X-Goud also has a branch in Eindhoven, and it turned out to be almost around the corner. The owner happened to be there because the premises were being fitted out, but even though I had no appointment I was still received very warmly. After a clear, expert, no-obligation explanation and testing, Ekin named a rather different buying price compared to the Goud-Wisselkantoor where I had been an hour earlier. And luckily I had left to look for a kind of second opinion. X-GOUD bought my jewellery for 7,150!!!!!!!! A GOOD 3,000 MORE! Sorry for the long-winded build-up, but this piece really should have been written entirely in capitals so that everyone clearly reads how, in my view, to put it politely, they rip you off right to your face at the Goud-Wisselkantoor. Is designer jewellery worth more than its gold?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sought-after gold lines from, for example, Bulgari or Chopard have a second-hand market above the gold value; simple silver pieces often do not. We work out the trade value and the material value and offer on the higher one.
What is Tiffany silver worth?
At least the silver value of the 925 silver. Whether the brand adds anything depends on the line, the condition and the completeness. With common pendants and bracelets that is often limited. We tell you honestly at the table.
Do you buy a Bulgari Serpenti or B.zero1 ring?
Yes. They are mostly 18-carat gold, sometimes with ceramic or diamonds. We assess them as branded jewellery with the gold value as the floor, and check the signature, fineness and the condition of the ceramic.
Is my Hermès Clic H bracelet worth anything to you?
The enamel Clic H is usually gold- or palladium-plated metal, without solid precious metal. We cannot make an offer on that. Solid silver and gold Hermès jewellery we do buy.
What happens if a diamond is missing from my Happy Diamonds?
That lowers the trade value, and we visibly take it into account. The gold and the remaining diamonds keep their value. If the trade value is lower than the material value, we offer on the metal and the stones.
