Two weights under one name
After the Lateran Treaty of 1929, Vatican City was given its own coinage. The gold 100 lire of Pius XI at first weighed 8.8 grams. From 1936 it was reduced to 5.19 grams, at the same fineness of 900. That lighter type continued under Pius XII and later.
