What do we pay for a gold Tudor Beasts?

Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:

1 oz31.104 g—€3,718.03
1/4 oz7.776 g—€929.51

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.

This coin is 999.9‰ (24 carat) pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

The successor to the Queen’s Beasts: heraldic beasts of the House of Tudor, starting with the Seymour Panther in 2022.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Heraldic beasts from Hampton Court

The designs go back to the stone beasts Henry VIII had placed around Hampton Court. After the Seymour Panther came the Lion of England, the Bull of Clarence and the Seymour Unicorn, among others.

Each beast has its own year and its own image, but weight and fineness stay the same. We settle on the gold inside.

Not to be confused with the Queen’s Beasts

The Queen’s Beasts also include a Lion of England. You can tell them apart by the portrait and the legend; for the price it makes no difference, because both series are 999.9 gold. We do note which series it is, so that your purchase receipt is correct.

In four steps

How to sell your gold Tudor Beasts

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling gold Tudor Beasts

What does a 1 oz Tudor Beasts fetch?

It contains 31.1035 grams of fine gold. We multiply that weight by the gold rate of the moment and deduct our margin. The amount per size stands in the table on this page.

Is a newer coin worth more than an older one?

Not for the gold value. A coin from 2022 and one from a later year contain exactly the same gold. Only a proof issue with certificate may come out slightly above the gold value, and we assess that separately.

Do you buy the quarter ounce as well?

Yes, the 1/4 oz with 7.776 grams of fine gold has its own line in the table. Feel free to bring both sizes together.

Should the coin stay in its capsule?

Please leave it in. We can weigh and measure through the capsule, and it protects the soft gold surface. If it has to come out for a check, we ask you first.
