What do we pay for a gold Australian Swan?

Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.52 per gram of fine material. As of:

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.

This coin is 999.9‰ (24 carat) pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.

The Perth Mint’s swan appears every year in a new design and in a limited mintage.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

A sister to the silver swan

The gold Swan followed the silver version in 2017, which had sold out within days that same year. The first gold year was limited to 5,000 coins, and later years also appear in small numbers.

Recognising and valuing it

The reverse spells out weight and fineness in full: 1oz 9999, with the Perth Mint’s P mint mark. That makes the coin easy to check. We weigh, measure and test the fineness, and settle on the ounce of gold.

A limited mintage does not automatically mean a higher purchase price. We value the gold and tell you if a particular year comes out above it.

In four steps

How to sell your gold Australian Swan

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling gold Australian Swan

How much gold does an Australian Swan contain?

One troy ounce, 31.1035 grams of 999.9 fine gold. We multiply that by the gold rate of the moment and deduct our margin.

Is the first year, 2017, special?

It had a mintage of 5,000 and is known among collectors. For our purchase we count the gold first; if collector value plays a part, we discuss it with you at the counter.

How do I know my coin is genuine?

We check that for you: weight, diameter, thickness and fineness. The measurement is non-destructive and takes place while you watch.

Can I sell a Swan without its capsule?

Yes, a capsule is not needed. It does protect the coin from scratches, so if you still have it, do bring it along.
