What do we pay for a serbian gold dinara?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 dinara | 5.807 g | 6.45 g | €666.33 |
| 10 dinara | 2.903 g | 3.23 g | €333.16 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
The gold coins of Milan I’s coronation in 1882 were popularly called milandor.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Milan, prince and king
The 20 dinara of 1879 was struck in Paris, with the A mint mark. After Serbia became a kingdom, a new 20 dinara from Vienna followed in 1882, together with a 10 dinara. Those coronation coins were popularly called milandor, after the French louis d’or.
How we settle
On the fine gold: 5.8065 grams per 20 dinara, half that per 10 dinara. With 50,000 coins, the 1879 issue is much scarcer than that of 1882; with every coin we look at whether the collector value exceeds the gold.

Questions about selling serbian gold dinara
How much gold is in a 20 dinara?
5.8065 grams of fine gold in a coin of 6.4516 grams. We settle against the gold rate of the moment, less our margin.
What is a milandor?
The popular name for King Milan’s gold coins of 1882, a play on the French louis d’or. It says nothing about the weight, which equals that of the 20 francs.
Is the 1879 coin worth more?
Often, yes, because only 50,000 were struck. We value the gold and the collector value and tell you which is higher.
Do you buy the 10 dinara too?
Yes. The 10 dinara of 1882 contains 2.903 grams of fine gold and has its own line in the table.
