What do we pay for a gold Pahlavi?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Pahlavi | 7.322 g | 8.14 g | €840.29 |
| 1/2 Pahlavi | 3.661 g | 4.07 g | €420.14 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
With the portrait of Mohammad Reza Shah; replaced after 1979 by the Bahar Azadi at the same weight.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

The Shah’s coin
The Pahlavi carries the portrait of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. The dates are in the Persian solar calendar: 1324 corresponds to 1945, 1357 to 1978. We convert them for you.
Gold and collector value
We settle on the fine gold: 7.32 grams per full Pahlavi. Some dates and versions are popular with collectors. We value the gold first and then discuss with you whether your coin is worth more.
Larger pieces of 2½, 5 or 10 Pahlavi also exist. Those we weigh and check at the counter.
How to sell your gold Pahlavi
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.
Paid out straight away
In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling gold Pahlavi
How much gold is in a Pahlavi?
A full Pahlavi contains 7.322 grams of fine gold in a coin of 8.136 grams. We settle against the gold rate of the moment.
How do I read the date?
It is in the Persian solar calendar. Add 621 and you have roughly the Western year: 1350 is 1971. We are happy to do it for you.
Is a Pahlavi worth more than a Bahar Azadi?
Not in gold, as weight and fineness are the same. Some Pahlavi dates do have collector value; we look at that coin by coin.
Do you buy the large Pahlavi coins too?
Yes, the 2½, 5 and 10 Pahlavi as well. We weigh and check them at the counter and settle on the gold.
