What do we pay for a gold 100 francs Monaco?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 francs | 29.032 g | 32.26 g | €3,331.63 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
Of Charles III only the years 1882, 1884 and 1886 exist; 5,000 were struck in 1882.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Two princes, one weight
Charles III, after whom Monte Carlo is named, had 35,000 gold 100 francs struck in 1882, 1884 and 1886 together. His son Albert I followed from 1891 to 1904. Both series have the French weight: 32.2581 grams of 900 gold.
How we value
We settle on 29.03 grams of fine gold. A coin of this size is worth copying, so we check weight, diameter, thickness and fineness. The 1882 date is the rarest; that one we also look at as a collector’s piece.

Questions about selling gold 100 francs Monaco
How much gold is in a 100 francs of Monaco?
29.0323 grams of fine gold in a coin of 32.2581 grams, just like a French 100 francs. We settle against the gold rate of the moment.
Is a coin of Charles III worth more than one of Albert I?
Not in gold. Fewer were struck of Charles III, and 1882 in particular is rare. We check coin by coin whether the collector value exceeds the gold.
How do I recognise a coin from Monaco?
By the portrait of the prince and the legend with MONACO, and by the arms of the Grimaldis on the reverse.
When am I paid?
Straight after you agree: in cash at the counter or by bank within 24 hours.
