What do we pay for a German gold euro coins?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 euros | 31.104 g | — | €3,718.03 |
| 100 euros | 15.552 g | — | €1,859.01 |
| 50 euros | 7.776 g | — | €929.51 |
| 20 euros | 3.888 g | — | €464.75 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 999.9‰ (24 carat) pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
The 200 euros exists only from 2002, the year the euro was introduced; the 100 euros has appeared every year since.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Four face values, four gold weights
In 2002 Germany marked the euro with a 200-euro coin holding a full ounce of gold. Alongside it came the 100 euros of half an ounce, with a new theme every year. The 20 euros followed in 2010, with the leaves of the Deutscher Wald, and the 50 euros in 2017, starting with the Luther rose.
Every coin is struck at all five German mints: Berlin (A), Munich (D), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G) and Hamburg (J).
Face value or gold value
The coin shows a euro amount, but its gold value is usually higher. We settle on the fine gold at the rate of the day. A complete set of five mint marks in its original packaging we value separately, because collectors sometimes look for it as a whole.
How to sell your German gold euro coins
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.
Paid out straight away
In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling German gold euro coins
Do I get the face value or the gold value?
The gold value. We settle on the fine gold of the coin against the rate of the moment. That value is usually higher than the amount printed on it.
Does the mint mark matter?
Not for the gold: A, D, F, G and J contain exactly the same. With a complete set of five mint marks in original packaging, we do look at whether collector value plays a part.
How much gold is in the 20 euros?
An eighth of a troy ounce, 3.89 grams of 999.9 gold. The coin has existed since 2010 and is the smallest of the German gold euro coins.
Can I sell the coin in its case?
Yes, and that is preferable. Case and certificate are not required, but they help in identifying the year and the mint mark.
