What do we pay for a gold Australian Emu?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 31.104 g | — | €3,718.03 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 999.9‰ (24 carat) pure, so the fine weight and the total weight are almost the same.
The Perth Mint strikes no more than 5,000 gold Emus a year.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Few in number, ordinary in gold
Since 2019 the Emu has appeared every year with a new image, each time in no more than 5,000 coins. That makes it a rarer sight than a Kangaroo, but the gold is the same: a troy ounce of 999.9.
What we check
We weigh the coin, measure diameter and thickness and determine the fineness without damaging anything. The Perth Mint gives a maximum diameter of 32.60 mm for the 1 oz; any deviation shows up at once when we measure.
If everything is in order, we settle on 31.1035 grams of fine gold at the rate of the day.
How to sell your gold Australian Emu
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.
Bring it in
With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.
We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

Questions about selling gold Australian Emu
How much gold is in a gold Emu?
One troy ounce, 31.1035 grams of 999.9 gold. That is the weight we settle on against the rate of the moment.
Does a small mintage fetch more?
Not automatically. We count the gold first. A coin with a small mintage can be sought after by collectors, but that depends on the year and condition; we tell you if it is.
My Emu has a small spot. Does that matter?
No. Pure gold is soft and can pick up small spots or scratches. That changes nothing about the gold weight and so nothing about the price.
How am I paid?
In cash at the counter or by bank within 24 hours, as soon as you accept the offer. You never have to leave the coin behind.
