What do we pay for a egyptian gold 100 piastres?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 piastres | 7.438 g | 8.5 g | €853.50 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 875‰ (21 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
A one-year type of Sultan Hussein Kamel, dated 1916 and, in the Islamic calendar, 1335.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

A short-lived sultanate
Hussein Kamel was Sultan of Egypt from 1914 until his death in 1917. His gold 100 piastres carries his name in Arabic and the date in both the Islamic and the Western calendar: 1335 and 1916.
An unusual fineness
At 875 – 21 carats – the fineness differs from the 900 or 916.7 of most historic coins. We therefore always determine it ourselves and settle on the fine gold: 7.44 grams.
Other Egyptian gold coins, such as those of King Farouk, we simply weigh and check at the counter.

Questions about selling egyptian gold 100 piastres
How much gold is in an Egyptian 100 piastres?
7.4375 grams of fine gold in a coin of 8.5 grams, at a fineness of 875. We settle against the gold rate of the moment.
Why is the fineness 875 and not 900?
Because Egypt chose 21-carat gold for this coin. The fineness is not stated on the coin; we measure it without damaging it.
I cannot read the legend. Do you know what it is?
Yes. The legend is Arabic, but the date also appears in the Western calendar. We identify the coin at the counter.
Do you buy other Egyptian gold coins too?
Yes. We weigh and check them at the counter and settle on the gold inside.
