What do we pay for a danish gold kroner?

Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:

10 kroner4.032 g4.48 g€462.73

This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.

This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.

Christian IX, Frederik VIII and Christian X: three kings, one weight under the Scandinavian Monetary Union.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Three kings on the same gold

The Danish gold kroner appeared from 1873 under Christian IX, then under Frederik VIII and Christian X. The portrait on the obverse changes with each king.

The weight always stayed the same: 8.9606 grams for the 20 kroner, half that for the 10 kroner.

Danish, Swedish or Norwegian?

For the gold it makes no difference, because the monetary union set a single standard. On the purchase receipt we do note the country and the king. We check every coin for weight, dimensions and fineness before we settle.

In four steps

How to sell your danish gold kroner

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling danish gold kroner

What does a Danish 20 kroner fetch?

The coin contains 8.0645 grams of fine gold. That weight times the gold rate of the moment, less our margin, is the amount you receive.

Does the king on the coin matter?

Not for the gold value. All Danish 20 kroner have the same gold weight. Only scarce years can be worth more to collectors.

Do you buy the 10 kroner too?

Yes. The 10 kroner contains 4.032 grams of fine gold and has its own line in the table.

My coins are set in a piece of jewellery. Is that all right?

Yes. A coin set in a pendant or bracelet we value as gold; if the coin can still be taken out, we also look at it as a coin.
