What do we pay for a Canadian gold 5 and 10 dollars?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 dollars | 15.046 g | 16.72 g | €1,726.65 |
| 5 dollars | 7.523 g | 8.36 g | €863.32 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
Only three years, 1912 to 1914, with King George V; after that Canada struck no more gold coins for circulation.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Canadian design, American size
Canada traded mainly with the United States and so gave its gold coins the weight of the American dollar. Like an eagle, a Canadian 10 dollars contains 15.05 grams of fine gold. The coins were struck in Ottawa, but only in 1912, 1913 and 1914.
What we check
We weigh and measure every coin and determine the fineness without damage. Because there are only three years, we also look at date and condition. We settle on the fine gold; if the collector value comes out higher, we say so.

Questions about selling Canadian gold 5 and 10 dollars
How much gold is in a Canadian 10 dollars?
15.046 grams of fine gold in a coin of 16.718 grams, as much as in an American eagle. We settle against the gold rate of the moment.
How do I tell it apart from an American 10 dollars?
By the portrait of George V and the Canadian arms on the reverse. American coins carry a Liberty or Indian head and an eagle.
Are all three years equally common?
Not quite; the mintages differed by year and size. We value the gold first and then look at whether your date is worth more.
What should I bring?
The coins and valid identification. The valuation is free and without obligation.
