This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.

How we arrive at this amount

A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.

This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.

Iran’s coin after the revolution of 1979, at the same weight as the Pahlavi it replaced. Often given as a wedding or birth present.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Present and savings

In Iran the Bahar Azadi is a usual present at a wedding or a birth, and a way of saving. That is how full, half and quarter Azadis reach our counters in the Netherlands and Belgium too.

The coin succeeded the Pahlavi in 1979 and kept the same weight: 8.136 grams of 900 gold.

How we settle

We settle on the fine gold per size. Every coin is weighed and measured, and we determine the fineness without damage. If you have a coin set in jewellery, we value it as gold.

In four steps

How to sell your gold Bahar Azadi

From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.

  1. Do not polish it

With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

  2. Bring it in

With or without an appointment, at one of our 45 locations. If the coin is in a holder, leave it in there.

  3. We assess two values

The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

  4. Paid out straight away

In cash or by bank transfer. Larger amounts reach your account within 24 hours.

Questions about selling gold Bahar Azadi

How much gold is in a full Bahar Azadi?

7.322 grams of fine gold in a coin of 8.136 grams. We multiply that weight by the gold rate of the moment, less our margin.

What is the difference from a Pahlavi?

The Pahlavi is the coin from before 1979, with the portrait of the Shah. The Bahar Azadi came after it, with a different design but the same weight and fineness.

Yes. The half contains 3.661 grams of fine gold and the quarter 1.831 grams. Each size has its own line in the table.

The coin is still in the bank’s plastic. Does it have to come out?

No, leave it in. We can weigh and measure through the packaging, and only open it if necessary, with your permission.
