What do we pay for a Australian gold 200 dollars?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 dollars | 9.167 g | 10 g | €1,051.97 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 916.7‰ (22 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.

Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

A 22-carat koala
In September 1980 Australia issued its first gold 200-dollar coin, with a koala in a eucalyptus tree and the portrait of Elizabeth II. Other designs followed until 1994, and the koala returned in several years.
The weight stayed at 10 grams of 22-carat gold, with 9.17 grams of fine gold.
How we value
We settle on the fine gold at the rate of the day. Many coins were sold in a case with certificate; proof issues in original packaging we assess separately. Loose coins we weigh and measure, and we determine the fineness without damage.
How to sell your Australian gold 200 dollars
From walking in to being paid usually takes less than half an hour.
Do not polish it
With collector coins, cleaning can push the value down considerably. A natural patina belongs to them.

We assess two values
The precious metal and what the coin itself does: year, mintage and condition. You get the higher of the two.

Questions about selling Australian gold 200 dollars
How much gold is in an Australian 200 dollars?
9.167 grams of fine gold in a coin of 10 grams. We settle against the gold rate of the moment, less our margin.
Do I get the face value of 200 dollars?
No, we pay the gold value. The face value applies only in Australia and has nothing to do with the gold.
Does the design matter?
Not for the gold. Some years or proof issues are more popular with collectors; we look at that coin by coin.
When am I paid?
Straight after you agree: in cash at the counter or by bank within 24 hours.
