What do we pay for a albanian gold franga ari?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 franga | 5.807 g | 6.45 g | €666.33 |
| 100 franga | 29.032 g | 32.26 g | €3,331.63 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
Ari means gold: the franga ari was the gold unit of account of Ahmet Zogu’s Albania.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

Skanderbeg, Zog and a royal wedding
The first 20 franga ari of 1926 show Skanderbeg, the fifteenth-century national hero. Later coins carry Zog’s portrait, and in 1938 commemorative coins appeared for his wedding and for twenty years of his rule.
What we settle
On the fine gold: 5.8065 grams per 20 franga and 29.03 grams per 100 franga. Albanian gold coins were struck in small numbers. We weigh and measure every coin and also look at whether date and design have collector value.
