What do we pay for a gold 20 euro Netherlands?
Based on the gold rate of this moment, €119.54 per gram of fine material. As of:
| Variant | Fine gold | Total weight | We pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 euros | 7.65 g | 8.5 g | €896.17 |
This price applies regardless of the year and the mint. With a rare year or exceptional condition the collector’s value can be higher than the material value – then we say so, even if that means you are better off not selling us the coin.
How we arrive at this amount
A coin is precious metal in a recognisable shape. What it fetches therefore depends almost entirely on the fine weight: the weight of pure gold it contains.
This coin is 900‰ (21.6 carat) pure. The rest of the alloy – usually copper – makes it harder and scratch-resistant, but has no value. That is why we calculate on the fine weight and not on what the scales say.
Issued for royal occasions, such as the birth of Princess Amalia and the silver jubilee of Queen Beatrix’s reign.
Not sure whether your coin is genuine? We check weight, diameter, thickness and – if in doubt – the density with X-ray analysis. Non-destructive: your coin stays intact.

For the royal family’s big moments
The gold 20 euro does not appear every year. The Royal Dutch Mint strikes it for royal occasions, such as the birth of Princess Amalia and the 25th anniversary of Queen Beatrix’s reign in 2005. It is larger and heavier than the gold 10 euro: 8.5 grams of 900 gold.
Settled on 7.65 grams of fine gold
Of the 8.5 grams, 90 per cent is gold, so 7.65 grams. That is what we pay on, against the gold rate of the moment. The rest is copper and silver from the alloy and does not count.
These are proof coins in a limited mintage. We always pay the gold value; whether a piece with case and certificate fetches more is assessed by the valuer at the table.
