Why the nicknames matter
The trade speaks in nicknames, and each one stands for a concrete reference. Pepsi is the red-and-blue bezel (126710BLRO), Batman the blue-and-black one (116710BLNR, later 126710BLNR), Root Beer the brown-and-gold version in Everose. Whoever offers a watch with the right name attached is talking about the same thing as the buyer.
Since 2018 the 126710 series has been running with calibre 3285 and a power reserve of some seventy hours. The 116710 before it had calibre 3186; the 16710 from the nineties still had an aluminium insert, available in three colourways, which fades – and that fading is sought after by collectors.
Jubilee or oyster makes a noticeable difference to saleability on the same reference. If you still have both bracelets, bring them both.

„I'll start by sharing my experience at the Goud-Wissel office in Eindhoven, where I initially ended up on the advice of an acquaintance. I already found it strange that their website didn't tell me roughly what I would receive per gram [in my case 18-carat gold] for the jewellery I wanted to sell. When I came in, the introductory questions felt like a kind of check on whether I knew what I was talking about. Even more: it gave me the creeping feeling that this conversation would be directly linked to the amount they would offer me for my gold. As a layman, I admitted that the generally known current gold price was my only 'knowledge'. What followed was a whole story about the broad concept of this valuation and a list of elements that made it logical that the buying price came nowhere near it. I had to realise that the basic costs of the gold exchange office: rent / fittings / staff / outsourced melting etc. were taken into account [read: deducted] from what was paid out to the customer at the bottom line. After testing, I was then offered 4,000 in short order. I had seen on a website that X-Goud also has a branch in Eindhoven, and it turned out to be almost around the corner. The owner happened to be there because the premises were being fitted out, but even though I had no appointment I was still received very warmly. After a clear, expert, no-obligation explanation and testing, Ekin named a rather different buying price compared to the Goud-Wisselkantoor where I had been an hour earlier. And luckily I had left to look for a kind of second opinion. X-GOUD bought my jewellery for 7,150!!!!!!!! A GOOD 3,000 MORE! Sorry for the long-winded build-up, but this piece really should have been written entirely in capitals so that everyone clearly reads how, in my view, to put it politely, they rip you off right to your face at the Goud-Wisselkantoor. Questions about selling Rolex GMT-Master II
My bezel has faded to purple. Is that damage?
No, quite the opposite. On the older aluminium inserts the red section fades under ultraviolet light towards pink or purple, and those so-called fuchsia bezels are sought after by collectors. So do not have the insert replaced. We assess how even the fading is and whether the insert belongs to the case; together that determines whether it is a plus or simply a neutral observation.
Can I sell my GMT if the second time zone no longer sets?
Yes. On the GMT-Master II the hour hand is independently adjustable, and if that mechanism is playing up it is a repair our watchmaker can quantify. We price those costs into the offer and tell you how much they are. Above all, do not have it repaired elsewhere with parts of uncertain origin – with Rolex that almost always costs more than it returns.
I have both the jubilee and the oyster bracelet. Should I bring both?
Yes, bring them both. On the same reference the bracelet makes a noticeable difference to saleability, and a dealer who receives both can offer the watch to two kinds of buyer. That shows in the offer. The same goes for removed links and the original clasp: leave them in the box and bring the box exactly as it is.
My GMT stops after two days. Is the movement worn out?
Probably not. An automatic movement runs on the mainspring you wind by wearing it; put the watch down and the power reserve runs out at some point. The 126710 series with calibre 3285 manages around seventy hours, while the older 116710 with calibre 3186 and the 16710 manage noticeably less. Stopping after two days therefore says something about the calibre rather than about wear.
My Root Beer is partly gold. Do you calculate that separately?
Yes. Wherever Everose is used – in the crown, the case or the links of the bracelet – there is precious metal, and we weigh and cost that value separately, just as on a bicolour Datejust. So you see two amounts: the material value and the trade value of the reference. On a GMT in good condition the trade value sits comfortably above it, and the material value is the floor underneath.
