Why is the vijfje harder to find than the tientje?
Far fewer were struck, and they circulated over a shorter period. That scarcity means a vijfje in good condition can carry a collector’s value above its gold value, particularly the earlier issues. We assess both and pay the higher amount.
Does the condition of the coin affect what I get?
For the gold value, no: only weight and fineness count, and wear barely touches either. For a collector’s value the condition matters a great deal, so bring the coin exactly as it is and do not attempt to clean or polish it.
Do you buy vijfjes from every year?
