The hundred-corona piece weighs 33.8753 grams at 900 fine, which leaves 30.4878 grams of pure gold – close to a full troy ounce. That makes it one of the heaviest historic gold coins that regularly reaches our counter.
Are these coins restrikes?
Many of them are. Austria restruck the 100 and 20 corona for decades using the original dies, all dated 1915, which is why so many carry that year. Restrikes trade purely on their gold content, and we settle them on the fine weight.
Is an original coin worth more than a restrike?
It can be. Genuine circulation issues from the years before 1915 were struck in far smaller numbers than the later restrikes, so collectors pay a premium for them. We check the date and the strike and offer you the higher of the two values.
